Welcome to April 🍂
Late March has shown us great weather - just what was needed when sorting the house and garden. Keep an eye out for bits and pieces you can recycle and use to create/recreate.
Maggy Johnston has a Tasman-based workshop that can assist you in reusing products from around the house. See our Workshop Calendar below for Maggy’s workshops including Next Level Coffee Sacks Workshop coming up in Richmond on 5 April.
Recent Workshops - Eco Dyeing and Feltmaking with Colleen Plank
Colleen Plank held two workshops at her Earth House Studio in Atawhai, Nelson recently.
At Colleen’s Eco Dyeing Workshop, local plants and found materials were used to create subtle colours on cotton, linen, wool and silk fibres, fabrics and paper. The next workshop is coming up in May so reserve your place now.
At the Contemporary Feltmaking Workshop, techniques of resists, inlays and embellishments were used to create surface textures into the structure of the felt. Colleen’s next Feltmaking Workshop is in July.
Harakeke (NZ Flax) Weaving with Evey Weavey
Evey has set dates for her next round of workshops. Starting with her Beginners Journey workshop, you can move onto her Weave the Greenest Shopping Basket, Ever or Practise, Practise, Practise workshops before the more complex Traditional Māori Kete with a Plait in its Base workshop.
Workshops are held in Inangahua which can be an adventure in itself! For accommodation try Berlins in Inangahua or base yourself in Reefton and enjoy some good local food and hospitality.
Evey has her harakeke creative works currently on display at the Nelson Suter Art Society’s Autumn Exhibition. While not tutoring at the Go Wild Weaving Weekend held in Golden Bay this year (12 to 13 April), Evey has very experimental art weaving works with eco prints and alternative weaving materials at the Art Vault in Tākaka.
Screen Printing with Judith Ritchie
We adore the screen prints made by Ann under Judith Ritchie’s guidance. Ann created her own bespoke designs that were translated to paper, t-shirts and a tote bag. Mastering the techniques over a weekend, Ann can now these skills for whatever is next - more creations we hope!
