Learn how to make an Heirloom Hooked Fleece Rug, with both tufted and loop pile textures.

We will use rug canvas, fleece locks and wool sliver to create tufted and looped pile textures, that you can incorporate into your own unique rug design. Don’t worry if design is not your thing – ideas for designs will be available, but if you are feeling creative go for it!

Making hooked rugs is not quick. Because of time constraints, during the workshop you will design and make a chair mat, a small rug used instead of a cushion on a wooden chair. By making the chair mat you will learn all the skills you need to make larger rugs that can grace your living spaces for generations to come.

The workshop is for beginners and those wanting to refresh rug hooking skills.

We start by preparing the rug canvas, creating a design, and transfering it to the canvas. You will select fleece locks and sliver in colours  and amounts you needed for your design. Then learn the skills to create tufted and loop pile textures. As you work on it, you will see your design materialise.

Students will go home with a chair mat or if they haven’t quite finished it, the materials and equipment needed to finish it. Supplies needed for further projects are available for purchase at the end of the workshop.

There is a choice of two material fees depending on whether you want to use natural or dyed colours.

Materials fees (to be paid on the day to tutor via cash or bank deposit):

  • Natural Colours - $70.00
  • Dyed Colours - 80.00

The materials fee includes the equipment needed, and which students get to take home (latch hook, crochet hook, and doll needle).

There is a choice of using natural colours or dyed colours and this is reflected in the two different materials fees.
