February Edition

February Edition

Welcome to February ☀️

Our favourite month - a time to start sorting out the sewing/craft room, studio or garage, and get things in order for your felt and textile projects during the cooler months.

Autumn Workshops & Waiting Lists

We have started listing our Autumn workshops. As tutors set new dates in Autumn and we update our workshop calendar, we will list them on social media and local newsletters.

Workshops are often small and intensive. It’s best to book as soon as you see dates being advertised to avoid disappointment and not miss out. We do have waiting lists for workshops and are happy to work with tutors to run bespoke dates for you and your friends.

Recent Workshop - Multi Media with Jill Richards

Our newest tutor to hold workshops under the NZTE umbrella is Jill Richards.

Jill has had work in a recent exhibition at the Suter Art Gallery, and held her first NZTE workshop in February at Pūtangitangi Greenmeadows Centre in Stoke, Nelson.

Jill is running her next Multi Media workshop on 28 June to 29 June at Pūtangitangi Greenmeadows. In this workshop, you will create you own unique collaged Floral Fantasy to brighten up your home decor.

Speedweve Mending with Renée Clothier

Renée held an informative and fun workshop in January at Nelson College for Girls on visible mending. Speedweve mending (also known as Speedweve darning) is a process of mending textiles visibly.

Here is what we took along and mended at Renée’s recent workshop. A pair of white linen pants had caught on the edge of a sharp door frame and ripped. We used the same colour thread to create a gorgeous lace look. These pants are now wearable while the area mended is not noticeable but pretty.

If you would like to be notified of when Renée is running her next Visible Mending with a Speedweve Darning Loom workshop, contact us at info@nztextileexperiences.co.nz.

New Business Opportunity - NZTE Looking for New Owner

We have had to make a decision to offer someone new the opportunity to take the reigns of NZTE. We have another business called Work Depot (HR, Recruitment and Dispute Resolution) and have started to become overcommitted running two businesses.

NZTE is in an awesome position with a new logo, website, refresh and committed tutors who are launching new and exciting workshops every month (50 workshops set to run so far in 2025). We have also made some wonderful contacts with interested tutors and workshop attendees including some from overseas!

If you are interested to learn about the business and become the new owner, get in touch with us as info@nztextileexperiences.co.nz (in confidence).

Local Spotlight

Maggy Johnston at Parker Gallery

We are often asked how workshop attendees can purchase work from tutors connected to NZTE. Maggy Johnston is currently exhibiting her wonderful textile creations at Parker Gallery in Nelson.

As we are notified of where tutors have their work available, we will let you know in our newsletters and online.
