August Edition

August Edition

Welcome to August

We have been in hibernation so no newsletter published for July, but now we are well into August and we can see and feel spring. Gardens are alive with daffodils and citrus, it's time to get creative!

Mindful Fashion New Zealand (MFNZ)

NZTE are now members of Mindful Fashion New Zealand. MFNZ is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2019 to strengthen the NZ fashion and textile industry.

MFNZ champion a new chapter for fashion and textiles in NZ, through advocacy, education and facilitating collaborative solutions and collective action. This is a united and collective voice to recognise that by working together the industry can address shared challenges and embrace opportunities in innovation and sustainability to enable the fashion industry to thrive.

New Workshops

We have plenty of workshop dates now advertised on our website for the next 6 months including two exciting new workshops by Maggy J based in Richmond, Tasman. Next Level Coffee Sacks and Embellish Me workshops are both one day workshops that would be great as a Christmas function with colleagues or friends.

Judith Ritchie has a series of workshops in Golden Bay including two new artisan workshops. Even while on holiday in England, our Jam in Jiffy tutor Judith Ritchie couldn’t resist all the wild blackberries growing along a laneway in central London. Up the ladder she went and minutes later had picked a harvest, found some jars, and had those big juicy berries bubbling away on the stove. Now bottled, the next job is to create bespoke labels. What a delicious gift to give her hosts as she continues her adventures around England.

There’s still time to book your place on Judith’s Jams Made in a Jiffy or Preserving Garden Produce Made Easy workshops coming up later in the year. Judith also has Screen Printing workshops that are perfect for visitors or guests from overseas. More information about her offerings can be viewed here.

We can’t wait to join Anne Grassham at her farmlet in the Wai-iti Valley for her Heirloom Hooked Fleece Rug Making workshop. Making hooked rugs is not quick but this is one thing we have had on our list for some time. We will show you our progress when we attend this workshop in October. Come join us on 06 October or enrol for 06 December.

Evey Weavey (Yvonne Hammond) has set dates for the next six months of workshops, including a new workshop called Practise, Practise, Practise. Every now and then Evey travels to Motueka to run workshops. The next Motueka Workshop is Weave the Greenest Shopping Basket, Ever on 28 to 29 September and is perfect for those with some experience including refreshers. Evey also has a number of Beginner Journey workshops coming up with the next one on 24 to 25 August in Murchison. Book here for Evey’s workshops.
